Have a Coffee First

Before you apply for that promotion that you’ve been waiting for, why not have a coffee with the hiring manager first?

It gives you the chance to build rapport, get some helpful information for your application and increases your odds of getting the role.

Before you make that big sales pitch, why not have a coffee with the potential buyer first?

It gives you the chance to find out what they need, to adapt to their requirements and to make a better pitch when the time comes.

Before you hire the talented hotshot that you’ve heard so much about, why not have a coffee with them first?

It gives you a chance to see if they’ll fit in with your team, if they have similar values and can save you from making a potentially costly hiring mistake.

It gives you the chance to better understand them, to build a meaningful relationship and increases the likelihood of your invitation being accepted.

It all of these situations, it’s not about the coffee.

It’s about building better relationships and getting to know people better so that you can increase your level of influence.
